Founded by friends Nikki Tibbles and Nadine Kayser, Wild at Heart Foundation fund and support animal welfare projects all over the world. By organising and sponsoring rescue projects, neutering programmes, awareness campaigns and education initiatives, they aim to help reduce the worlds 6 million stray dogs.

We asked the founders of Wild at Heart Foundation to share a few of their favourite moments with their dogs.

The first memories you have of your dogs.

Nikki: I had two beautiful boxer rescue’s growing up. I will forever remember sneaking down to the kitchen in the evening and curling up with them in their bed, often where my parents would still find me in the morning.

Favourite weekday moment with your dogs.

Nikki: Mornings. Waking up with my dogs, making a cup of earl grey tea and soaking up their peaceful temperament before the emails begin and the madness of the day ensues.

Nadine: The immense happiness of my dogs when they wake up every day, and how excited they are about the prospect of another 24 hours. Tails wagging, mouths smiling, jumping on me in bed. I just love that sheer happiness to be awake and with me (… although, maybe they’re just really hungry and want breakfast!).

Favourite weekend routine with your dogs.

Nikki: I try whenever possible to be in the country at the weekend. Spending time with the dogs, cooking and walking with good friends.

Three words that spring to mind when you think of your dogs.

Nadine: ‘OH SO LUCKY’ … all of my dogs have been rescues - and knowing that there are over 600 million stray dogs in our world - mine are the lucky ones. Most stray dogs life a horrid, torturous and sad life with little hope. This is why our mission at WaHF is so important. We need to make sure that there are less dogs being born into this hopeless life.

Favourite dog walk in London.

Nikki: I love taking the dogs up to Hampstead Heath. This has been my small slice of country respite since I very first moved to London… and the perfect place to go to with six dogs!

Dream dog walk anywhere in the world.

Nikki: My home in the South Downs is surrounded by miles of undisturbed British countryside. I head out of my back gate straight into the Shimming’s Valley and walk for hours and hours. There is no place I would rather be, it’s my time to reflect and where I find most of my inspiration…

Nadine: I am lucky enough to have a Swiss mother, so have been blessed with the experience of walking the hills and mountains of the alps. I often take my dogs to the motherland, where we can enjoy the charming beauty, exquisite fragrance and solitude of walks in the mountain forests of Switzerland.

Dream dog walking companion.

Nikki: With reference to my previous answer and my dogs being the loves of my life .... who would I walk with, dead or alive? That would be the other love of my life, my extraordinarily beautiful boyfriend Will Thompson. Clever, brilliant, funny, kind and compassionate. A person who loves our dogs nearly as much as I do, something I thought impossible. Some of our most precious moments together are spent walking for hours and hours with Lenny, Tia, Ronnie, Smith, Rita and Ruby ... does it get any better ..

Favourite drink or snack to return to after a walk.

Nikki: Always a black Earl Grey Tea….

When you picture your dogs, where are they and what are they doing?

Nikki: All six of them, lazing on my bed on a Sunday morning… heaven!
